Say Goodbye to Films and Hello to Digital Cameras

With the entry of digital cameras, photography has at no time been so exhilarating.

Today, there are varieties of digital cameras to select from already. Whether you buy either at the department store or online stores, you will see tons of them. Distinct digital cameras offer distinct features and capabilities. This is the justification why selecting one is becoming more and more puzzling. Once you see what each one has to contribute, you will undoubtedly have a difficult time deciding which one to obtain.

One of the common mistakes that people commit when acquiring their own digital camera is to be enticed by what the advertising mediums have to say about them. By the time they own that camera, they will realize that they are not as good as they first thought it was. It would then be too late to return it and opt for another kind.

Keep in mind that getting a digital camera should take a lot of mindfulness. Just like buying a car, you have to analyze all aspects since this is one thing that you want to work well and would want to have for a long time.

Here are some of the things to consider when shopping for a digital camera.

1. The cost.

Ok, so you wanted the latest canon digital camera out in the market. But are you ready to give the required amount of money for it?

Price tag is a big component when purchasing digital camera. It is understandable that the top camera comes with a price. And your budget may not exactly include its high cost.

This is not saying that budget ones are not as good. There are those that you can get for a practical price and still works just as well as an expensive one. You need to shop around for the best deal first before you decide on one. Better yet, you can save for that expensive camera that you wanted all along.

2. The purpose.

Will you be using the camera to take pictures of your family members? Or are you planning to shoot some photos worthy of a professional?

By understanding what use your digital camera will have, it would be easier to choose the type of digital camera to buy. If you buy a basic one that can be used at home, you will not get the bells and whistles that you need if you plan on taking really good photos. On the other hand, it would be a waste of your money if you have the latest digital camera only to be used for personal photos at home.

3. The durability.

Since a digital camera is more expensive than the conventional film cameras, you definitely would want something that will stay durable for a long time. You want something that will last even through rough handling and seasons.

If you happen to get a typical digital camera you may want to buy some extras to defend it from scratches and damage. It is best however to get one that is known to have a good quality and durability.

Get the best value out of the money that you will pay for a digital photography camera. Think hard about these important factors first so you will get it right the first time.

Are You Considering Fold-Down Plasma TV Lifts?

Do you have a small space that you are trying to get more space out of? If so, you might want to consider fold-down plasma TV lifts for that space. Used in homes, offices and even boats and yachts, drop-down plasma TV lifts make it possible to have a television without taking up an inordinate amount of space.

The reality is that televisions and all of their wires can take up a great deal of space. Furthermore, having a television sitting on a counter or entertainment stand can be unattractive and can even make a room look cluttered.

To help create a more attractive room and free up more space when the television is not being used, consider fold-down plasma TV lifts.

Of course, when purchasing a lift, you need to be certain you select the one that suits your specific needs and space. If you are looking for a lift to use on a yacht, for example, you will need to take additional factors into consideration. Some things to think about when purchasing marine fold-down plasma TV lifts include:

Durability

While durability is essential, it is even more important with a marine lift because it will be shaken and bumped more than a lift located in a home or office.

Materials

It is important to select a lift made of materials that will not be damaged by the moisture and salt of seawater.

Size

Clearly, you need to select a lift and a television that will fit properly in the space you have available on your yacht or boat.

Of course, there are several things to take into consideration when purchasing drop-down plasma TV lifts for a home or office as well. Primarily, you want to be certain to select a TV size that will provide you with the most viewing pleasure, which means you need to think ahead when purchasing a lift. After all, if you decide to upgrade to a larger display at a later date, you will need to change out your lift as well. By thinking ahead, you will be better prepared to select the right size to suit your needs for now, as well as for the future.

With the help of TV lifts, you can free up more space in your home, office or yacht while also creating a more sleek and professional look. Just be certain to explore your options fully up front to find the one that best suits your needs as well as your lifestyle.

Living Large in Britain with American Fridge Freezers and Range Cookers

The Americans are really good at one thing: being big. Their cars are big; their expansionist foreign policies are big; and their domestic appliances are big. Unlike their cars, which are appallingly bad for the environment, or their foreign policy, which is appallingly bad for everyone, American fridge freezers and range cookers are awesome additions to any home - particularly the traditionally stuffy homes of the Brits.

The British kitchen, usually, is the habitat of small and boring things. British fridge freezers, unlike American fridge freezers, are dumpy little boxes made of easily crackable ugly white plastic, only suitable for food storage if the house is occupied by a single person. The freezer compartment on British fridge freezers is laughable, usually giving enough space to hold one tub of ice cream, one bag of frozen peas and that ugly lump of encroaching ice that moves, like some kind of evil-tasting glacier, inexorably from the back of the fridge week after menacing week.

Range cookers are the heated equivalent of all this glorious space: like American fridge freezers, range cookers (which, as the name suggests, would look amply at home in the smokehouse of a 3 million acre ranch) are built according to the idea that more than one person might be living in a house. Range cookers have vast hobs (usually five or seven) sweeping over a pair of side-by-side ovens - so whole meals can actually be cooked all at the same time, without resorting to that peculiarly English device of "keeping everything warm", i.e., trapping it in overheated pots until everything's gone mushy.

Range cookers, again like American fridge freezers (and like old American cars, before Ford decided that "cool" meant "like an enormous radio controlled toy") are extremely stylish. They have something of the look of an industrial cooker, crossed with the plump comfort of an Aga. Generally, range cookers either get finished in super-modern heavy duty brushed metal, or pleasingly fat paints that make them look as though they have fallen through time from the 1950s, when having apple pie was a real treat and America hadn't taken over the universe. In a British kitchen, alongside American fridge freezers, range cookers look like home: a lot more appealing than the dumpy plastic nonsense the inhabitants of this green and pleasant land have, for too long, been content to call appliances.

American fridge freezers, by stark contrast, glory in their use of space. The freezer compartment in American fridge freezers is exactly the same size as the fridge bit: a device made possible by the fact that American fridge freezers are split vertically rather than laterally. American fridge freezers have a pair of swing doors: one side opens to reveal a fridge, in which as much storage space is enabled by the guts of the door itself as the bowels of the fridge; and the other side lets you into a freezer. Again, the door part of the freezer section holds almost as much stuff as the actual freezer: which means American fridge freezers can realistically support a whole family, rather than a single man who only eats ice cream.

What Can You Do With a Google Nexus S?

Samsung and Google have both teamed up to bring to the world the amazing Nexus S smart phone, but appreciating this beauty of a phone is not quite the only thing one can do. The device is filled to the brim with features and functions; and here is a quick list of some of the simplest things you can do to make the experience a lot better.

First off, bring back the comma to the onscreen keyboard; this is an issue since a new button, the “voice input” button, has taken over the spot where the comma originally was. Good thing is, there is a simply setting that one can adjust to fix this. Simply go straight to the Android keyboard settings and turn off the voice input keyboard button.

If you tend to keep an eye on your phone’s energy consumption; Google allows users to see an in-depth view of how the phone makes use of the battery. There is a graph you can check at the “About Phone” menu and click the battery icon to see the full breakdown.

For many, managing apps is one of the biggest chores in any smart phone (even for the iPhone). Fortunately, there is one menu in the Android OS that lists down everything you have downloaded and installed, and it also provides a one hit button for un-installation procedures: the Android Market. Oddly enough, this online menu still keeps a great deal of content, even telling you of apps you installed but have forgotten.

Anyway, we may have suggested that the voice button be removed from the virtual keyboard, but the bottom line is that voice is the big new function for the handset. There is voice search, voice commands and even voice dictation for writing down long notes. It is fast and surprisingly easy to do, not to mention the fact that Google’s hardware and software for detecting voice is uncanny.

A Short Guide to Laptops and Laptop Bags

Laptop computers have come a long way in a short time. Even though they are a relatively recent invention, they can now be seen everywhere you go, and frequently outsell desktop computers. Their small size, portability and convenience being the main reasons for their success. If you are a laptop owner, or you are considering buying one, then you might find the below facts and advice interesting reading...

- Alan Kay, a Xerox engineer, is credited with coming up with the idea of a laptop computer in the late 60s. Ahead of his time, it was not until 1973 that the first prototype was build by IBM. In the mid 70s, IBM opened up laptops to consumers with their 1500 series. While these computers were not particularly small and lacked basic features, they showed that there was a market for the product.

- Laptops these days have features that the original makers could only have dreamed of. With such a wide range of good laptops to choose from, anyone purchasing one has to carefully consider the intended use. Everything from the size of the screen to the number of USB ports should be taken into account.

- For those using them for more basic tasks like checking emails and surfing the web, there is probably no reason they cannot go for cheaper, simpler models since virtually all laptops perform these tasks. For those who intend to use their computers for more intensive uses such a multitasking and gaming, a mid to high range laptop will be needed.

- With their components being so small and tightly packed together, they cannot be easily upgraded and changed as desktop computers either. While companies like HP and Dell offer many customization options on purchase, remember that any changes will likely be difficult and expensive after you have received the laptop.

- By getting a wireless / mobile broadband card, or plugging in your gprs enabled phone, you can access the Internet on your laptop from wherever you happen to be. There is no need to play around with cables and routers, you just open up your web browser and off you go.

- While the first thing many people look at is the bags appearance, it has important functions that need to be considered. Most important is the protection the laptop bag offers from sudden drops, moisture and other possible hazards. Other important features are ease of access and the number of compartments. People carry a lot of things nowadays. The bag needs to have enough easy-to-access compartments to carry all the gear needed.

- Those who need to keep their hands free usually opt for backpack laptop bags that keep the laptop secure in the bag while offering various compartments and other features depending on the bag. Those looking to save on money and space tend to go for laptop sleeves. These are just simple covers that may not have any pockets at all, but which protect the laptop from sudden jolts or the elements.

Types of Digital Cameras

Once you decide upon buying a digital camera for yourself and go shopping you will come across various types of cameras ranging from a few hundreds to thousands of dollars. Here I will give you a brief idea of the different digital cameras available in the market so that you can have a prior idea as to what each camera type is capable of and decide upon the best digital camera type for your needs.

1. Ultra Compact Digital Cameras

Ultra Compact Digital Cameras are the smallest digital cameras available, so small that they can be easily slipped into a shirt pocket. They are lightweight, easy to use and are capable of taking quality images with the least of manual adjustments. Most cameras of this type have lesser number of effective pixels and fewer features than compact cameras, like viewfinder and other typical manual controls. Cameras like Nikon Coolpix S3000 and Panasonic Lumix FP3 fall in this category. They are moderate to high priced.

2. Compact Digital Cameras

Compact digital cameras or Point and Shoot cameras, as they are also known, are compact, lightweight and have semi-automatic and manual controls. As their name suggests, they are ideal for point-and-shoot photography having fully automatic and scene modes. They normally produce very high quality images and are low to moderate priced according to their features. Canon PowerShot S95 and Nikon Coolpix L22 are typical cameras of this category.

Some latest compact digital cameras like the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 comes with the ability of taking 3D images as well.

3. Advanced Digital Cameras

They are also called Prosumer digital cameras and are targeted towards photographers having skills between professional and consumer. They feature advanced high quality lens and manually controlled features for greater creative control, much like DSLR cameras, but lack interchangeable lenses. They are moderate to high priced and cameras such as Nikon CoolPix P7000 and Sony Alpha A900 come under this category.

4. Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras

Digital Single Lens Reflex or DSLR cameras are the best digital cameras available in the market today. They have high quality optics, capture very high resolution images, and have large optical zooming capability. They also accept interchangeable lenses and other sophisticated accessories.

DSLR cameras have got full range of manual control but can also function automatically. They are very high priced and are ideal for the professional photographers.

5. Micro Four Thirds Cameras

Micro Four Third digital cameras were first introduced by Panasonic in 2008 and are very similar to single lens reflex type digital cameras but lack reflex mirrors and optical viewfinders. They are smaller and more compact than DSLR cameras but have large sensors and accommodate interchangeable lenses like DSLRs. They are moderate to high priced. Cameras such as Olympus PEN E-P1 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 fall under this category.

6. Interchangeable Lens Unit Camera System

Ricoh first introduced the interchangeable lens unit camera in 2009. These cameras are unique in the sense that they consist of a body and separate camera units. Each unit contains its own lens, image sensor and image processor. They lens units simply slide into the camera body to make up the whole camera. They are pretty much towards the expensive side.

These are the 6 main types of digital cameras available in the market. So before your start shopping for your new camera, decide on your needs and requirements and then choose your best digital camera type

Difference Betwen LCD and Plasma TVs

Plasma and LCD panels may look similar, but the flat screen and thin profile is where the similarities end. There are a number of significant differences between the two.

Let us understand the meaning of Plasma and LCD Televisions in order to better understand the differences between them.

LCD TV

LCD TV uses LCD technology for its visual output. Liquid Crystal Display or LCD is a thin, flat display device made up of a number of color or monochrome pixels arrayed infront of a light source or reflector. In color LCDs each individual pixel is divided into three cells or subpixels which are colored red, green and blue. Each cell or subpixel can be controlled independently to yield thousands or millions of possible colors for each pixel. LCD TVs can make for excellent High Definition TV viewing.

LCD TVs - The Good

1. Excellent Color Reproduction - LCDs can display millions of colors accurately.

2. Multi-functional - LCD TVs have a plethora of connectivity options. They typically include inputs for composite video, S-video, High Definition Multimedia Interface(HDMI) and PC In.

3. No Burn In - With LCDs there is no problem of Burn In. Some TVs that rely on phosphors such as Plasmas and CRTs can experience Burn In where ghost images are permanently burned into the screen.

4. Inherently Progressive - LCDs use millions of tiny transistors that can be individually controlled by the "brains" inside the display. So LCDs can easily handle progressive-scan sources.

5. High Resolution - LCDs can display High Definition content with resolutions of 1366x768. The highest resolution achieved in a LCD is 1920x1080. 1080p is also called Full High Definition whereas 720p is called High Definition.

LCD TVs - The Bad

1. Expensive - LCD TVs are great but they are not cheap. LCD TVs cost more per inch than plasmas.

2. Poor Reproduction of Blacks - LCD TVs tend to produce grays, not blacks.

3. Limited Viewing Angle - LCDs have typically poor viewing angle. However, there has been a drastic improvement on this front with latest LCDs achieving a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees.

4. Slow Response Time - LCDs have longer response times than Plasmas. For example, when moving the mouse too fast on an LCD, multiple cursors can sometimes be seen. This is also known as Ghosting Effect. But this problem seems to have been addressed with the latest LCD TVs with response times as low as 8ms.

5. Low Contrast Ratio - Contrast Ratio is the ratio of the intensity of the brightest bright to the darkest dark. LCDs comparitively have lower Contrast Ratios than Plasmas.

Plasma TVs

A plasma screen contains literally millions of gas-filled cells (each one acting as a single image pixel) trapped between two pieces of glass. An electrical grid zaps these cells and causes the gases to ionize (and ionized gas is plasma - hence the name). The ionized gases, in turn, cause a layer of phosphor on the viewer's side layer of glass to light up. Plasma TVs combine a thin, compact chassis with a truly large screen size. Despite their compact dimensions Plasmas are available in 42+, 50+ and even 60+ inch sizes.

Plasma TVs - The Good

1. Excellent Brightness - Plasma TVs don't rely on a light bulb shining through or reflecting off of something (as an LCD or DLP system does). Plasma brightness is even better than CRT's in some ways because the picture is evenly bright across the entire screen.

2. High Resolution - The finest plasma TVs have such high resolutions (and such smooth images) that they look life like.

3. Progressive in nature - All the pixels on the screen light up simultaneously. You can have progressive HDTV sources (such as 720p) and non-HDTV sources (such as progressive-scan DVD players) displayed to full advantage on a plasma HDTV.

4. Wide Viewing Angle - Plasmas have a wider viewing angle as compared to LCDs. Plasma displays have a good picture even when you're sitting "off axis" (not perpendicular to the screen surface). This is a huge benefit for smaller rooms, where viewers may sit relatively far off to the sides of the screen, at wider angles.

Plasma TVs - The Bad

1. Burn-In - Plasmas rely on phosphor to display video. This can cause Burn-In where ghost images are permanently burned into the screen.

2. Short Lifespan - Another phenomenon of any phosphor-based display system is that eventually the phosphors "wear out" or lose their brightness. This is a subtle and slow process, but it inevitably happens.

3. Less-than-perfect color reproduction - Although plasma displays can produce a breathtaking array of colors, a lot of sets have the unfortunate tendency to make red colors look more orange than true red.

4. Poor reproduction of black - Plasma TVs fall short in the realm of reproducing black images. Most plasmas do slightly better job than LCD TVs at black reproduction, but they fall short of CRTs and some projection systems.

Other factors such as pricing, weight, power usage, high altitude performance and transportation are other considerations that apply on a person to person basis. So I will briefly just state the overall differences in these areas.

Pricing: Plasma TVs are still significantly less expensive than LCD in sizes over 32".

Weight: LCD TVs are considerably lighter and as such easier to mount and install. So... Plasma TVs will almost likely require a professional installer.

Power Usage: LCD TVs use on average half of the power Plasma TVs use

High altitude performance: High altitudes can affect the performance of plasma TV displays because the gas held inside each pixel is stressed, and has to work harder to perform. So......LCD TVs are better at high altitude (6500 feet and above).

Transportation: LCD TVs are lighter and far less fragile than plasma displays making shipping easier and less expensive.

Because technology in both Plasma and LCD TVS is advancing rapidly we may find some of these differences (such as size) very minimal in the near future.

Digital Photography Tips - How to Focus a Point and Shoot Camera

Point and shoot cameras can provide really sharp images if you use them correctly. But for many digital images taken with a point and shoot, main subject sharpness -- or lack thereof -- is a real issue.

Most all point and shoot cameras have an auto-focus feature, which is really awesome... most of the time. The lack of sharpness problems arise during certain conditions, one of which is when trying to shoot your subject a little bit off-center. Shooting off-center is a widely-used practice that can add style, interest, and professionalism to an otherwise ordinary image. In blunt terms, shooting off-center can be A Very Good Thing.

A loose example of this is when your subject, your best friend for instance, is standing off to either side in front of a waterfall, or an old covered wagon. You'd like to capture both your friend and the background but when your photo is finished, your friend is out of focus. That happened because the point and shoot camera's viewfinder was not placed on the most important part of your composition, which in this case was your best friend, but was instead placed on the background where it automatically focused.

Fortunately, there's a really simple work around to this problem that anyone who can hold a camera can pull off. Point and shoot cameras feature the ability to lock, or pre-lock, the focus at any point during the process of composing a photograph.

Basically, pre-locking focus means that you force your camera to focus on a specific object in the composition and remain locked on that distance until you actually snap the picture.
To pre-lock, simply place the viewfinder's focus point on the desired object -- in the example above it would be your best friend -- and press the shutter halfway down. At that point you should see a green glow in the viewfinder's eyepiece that signals your focus is locked (if it glows steadily, that means your focus is locked; it if winks off and on or doesn't light at all, you need to try again).

Now, keeping the shutter pressed halfway, move your camera until the exact composition you want appears in your viewfinder -- in the example above it would be when your best friend is positioned on one side or the other of the image and the waterfall or covered wagon is roughly in the center.

Next, hold your camera very steady and press the shutter the rest of the way to actually capture the shot.

No matter what composition you're going for, it's always important to be mindful of where your focus point is. Taking a moment to do so can save a good many of your photographs.

Final tip: Once your focus is locked and you're keeping the shutter pressed halfway, the focus won't change at all. If your subject moves or if you take a step forwards or backwards, your subject will not be in focus any longer and you'll need to do the whole process again.

Varieties of Cameras

Major manufacturers such as HP, Kodak, Samsung and Fuji offer cheap digital cameras too. Cheap digital cameras generally have lesser advanced features such as multiple file resolution settings, optical zoom, optional image file type settings, advanced automatic exposure meters, large capacity memory cards, replaceable lenses and waterproofing. Most of the cheap Digital cameras are of point and shoot type.

Image quality is related to Megapixel rating directly and the handling of white balance by the camera. If you want to post pictures on a web site, email pictures or store them on hard drives, cheap digital cameras with a 1.3 Megapixel rating are more than satisfactory. If you want to have images of portrait quality, then you have to look for cameras with 3 mega pixels or higher ratings.

Due to the Megapixel rating, many cameras are expensive. The higher the rating of the mega pixels, the larger the photographs. However, cheap digital cameras will not come with a lot of mega pixels but still may not be necessary at all times. You don't require a lot of memory if you don't need very large pictures. Most cheap digital cameras will print eight by ten inches and this is what many people may need.

However, cheap digital cameras can be an excellent gift for young children. If you want to get started in digital photography and if you are not sure how to take it forward, cheap digital camera is an excellent choice. It can also be a spare or a good second camera for keeping in your boat or car for taking advantage of capturing some unexpected photo opportunities. You need not spend a large amount of money for buying a brand new digital camera just for opening up the box and reading the instruction manuals once but not interested to learn all the features of the camera. Still, most people often get discouraged from buying a used digital camera as they feel that they can get great pictures by getting the most expensive camera available. There are many cheap digital cameras available for sale and you may not require all of the fancy features and thus can save money.

You have to think about the overall picture quality you get from a cheap digital camera. It can take amazing pictures outside and if you try to take some inside the house, the quality can be poor. Though you can repair them with some photo editing software, you will not get professional photograph pictures. But you can have it for your basic picture taking needs.

You can look for cheap digital cameras available on a number of websites and can read reviews and blogs from some people who have tried with such cameras. This is the best way for deciding the type of cheap digital cameras suitable for your needs. Many sites have listings of sales, coupons, bargains and cheap deals. You can select a specific deal offered on a cheap digital camera sent to you via palm text message, email, RSS feed or mobile phone amongst others. Such alerts on deals can be customized to enable you to select for receiving only cheap digital camera offers from a particular brand or vendor in an area. You can also customize such that cheap digital cameras can be classified based on the price as everyone has a different budget.

Refurbished Laptop Computers

There is big misconception among many users regarding refurbished laptop computers. Many of us think that refurbished also known as reconditioned laptops are not good in quality and used devices that are resold after repairing and upgrading them. But this is not true in all cases. Although used refurbished products are available in the market but brand new unused factory reconditioned products are also available for purchase.

Consumers, who want to purchase low cost products, look for affordable and cost effective deals on gadgets, but the idea of buying refurbished devices is straight away rejected with the thought of getting a used product or products of inferior quality.

This does not hold true always. As already mentioned earlier, refurbished products can be of two types, use reconditioned and factory reconditioned. The user refurbished devices are definitely used products that are sold after repairing the damages and making them fit for resale. But factory refurbished devices are the products which fail to pass the quality check at one point due to some reason or other such as minor scratches and other defects. These devices are then repaired and again released for sale. This makes the products all the more worthy as they are passed through various rounds of strict and stringent quality checks, making sure that they perform absolutely fine when used by the customers.

There are many advantages of buying reconditioned products. The customers can be assured of high quality and performance when buying refurbished computers as they are checked for high standards of performance at each level of examinations. You can get a top quality and branded refurbished model at very affordable and low price as compared to their counterparts that are sold under fresh retail. You can get refurbished laptop computers of all the reputed companies such as Dell, Acer, Compaq, Toshiba, Sony, Apple and Lenovo. You also get the warranty on these products.

To find a perfect factory refurbished product, you need to do a bit of research before making the purchase. There are many online electronic stores that provide complete information and the product details along with the price comparision of the deals available with them. You can visit these websites and get the details of your chosen products. Always keep one thing in mind that the cheapest deal is not the best deal always. Before finalising the final model, look into the specifications and recheck whether they match your computing needs or not.

So now if you want to buy a high specification laptop computer at very low prices, reconditioned products are good options for you.

LG Optimus Review

Handsets LG Optimus T and Optimus S review By Myriam Joire posted Nov 5th 2010 5:00PM Review It wasn't long ago that buying a smartphone meant spending at least a Benjamin and committing to an expensive 2-year contract. But things are changing, and shopping for a smartphone on a budget is getting easier than ever, thanks in great part to a recent flood of reasonably-priced Android devices that are pouring into the market. We've already talked about the HTC Wildfire, Huawei Ascent, ZTE Racer and Blade/San Francisco, and the Motorola Citrus -- not to mention the lovely Comet (and its international cousin, the Ideos) on T-Mobile. Enter the LG Optimus T ($30 post-rebate on T-Mobile) and Optimus S ($50 post-rebate on Sprint), two Android siblings that might prove once and for all that "affordable" doesn't mean "cheap." Let's dig in.

Hardware

At a glance, the Optimus T and Optimus S look attractive if not somewhat generic. Our review units came in a lovely shade of burgundy (T-Mobile) and purple (Sprint), but each is also available in black. Both devices feel solid and comfortable in hand. Build quality is excellent, and the abundance of soft-touch plastics remind us of Sprint's HTC Hero. LG rightfully opted for physical buttons all around, and added a smattering of tasteful chrome / silver hard plastic accents. The 3.2-inch 480 x 320 pixel TFT LCD is bright, with vibrant colors and decent viewing angles. The capacitive touchscreen is responsive, but we're still debating the material -- likely glass but possibly high-grade plastic. There's a 3.5mm headphone jack and power / lock button on the top edge, a micro-USB connector and microphone hole on the bottom edge, and a volume rocker on the right edge of each phone. In back, a color-coordinated aluminum pod houses a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera without flash.

Xbox Birthday Signals Death of 5-Year Console Cycle

When the Xbox 360 turned 5 years old this week with no known successor on the horizon, and no new imminent PlayStation or Wii either, it may well have signaled the demise of one of the video game industry's most longstanding truisms.

Since at least the mid-1980s, major console makers have generally come out with new models every five years or so. For example, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) came out in 1985, followed by the Super NES in 1991, the Nintendo 64 in 1996, the GameCube in 2001, and the Wii in 2006. Sony put out the first PlayStation in 1995 and followed up with the PS2 in 2000 and the PS3 in 2006. And Microsoft introduced the original Xbox in 2001 and released the Xbox 360 in 2005.

But now, with the Xbox 360 having turned five, and the PS3 and Nintendo's Wii both having just hit their fourth birthdays, many industry observers see the ongoing success of each of the three major platforms as evidence that neither Microsoft, Sony, nor Nintendo have any intentions of following up in the next year or so. And why should they? Consumers are still buying the machines by the hundreds of thousands each month, and ramped-up online initiatives are breathing new life into the systems.

"I've been saying since 2002," said Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter, "that the generation [started] in 2005 might be our last one."

But why would the major console makers pass up the opportunity to make big new splashes with, say, an Xbox 720, a PlayStation 4, or a Wii 2?

To observers like Pachter, a lot of it has to do with the fact that with the current generation of consoles (often called the "next-gen"), each company found a way to maximize either the technology behind the devices, or the utility to a wide range of new gamers.

Analog and Digital TVs

For years, we have been watching CRT television that involved cathode ray tube or CRT sets and analog signals. In these kinds of TVs, the signals constitutes of varying radio waves that are translated by the TV into picture and sound. Analog signals can be transmitted to a television set over the air through satellite or a cable. But CRT TVs based on the system of analog signals have certain limitations such as the conventional CRT television sets can display only around 480 visible lines of pixels and with the advancement in technology broadcasters find it difficult to fill a large television into the analog signal. Also the analog pictures are interlaced due to which on some TVs, the picture or the images flicker. One has to compromise with the video quality also as converting video to analog format lowers its quality.

Like all other fields, the gadgets and electronics sector has also witnessed a lot of innovation and advancement in technology to make the things better. Digital TV or DTV is the answer to above mentioned limitations. Rear projection, LCD TV and plasma TVs are based on the system of digital signals. A liquid crystal display popularly known as LCD is a thin, flat panel that is used to display information such as text, images, and moving pictures electronically. Digital televisions are based on the principle of digital signals where the signals are transmitted in the form of binary format or 0s and 1s. The information for video and sound are transmitted as ones and zeros instead of as a wave in the case of DTVs.

Due to this format, these televisions have several advantages over the CRT TVs such as the picture quality is much more improved in case of DTVs. The video is also progressive instead of being interlaced and the TV stations and broadcasters can broadcast using multicasting which includes sending several signals using the same bandwidth. Digital TV can also support high-definition or HDTV broadcasts. HDTV or High Definition TeleVisions are the digital TVs with highest of the DTV technological standards. Three major parameters define the broadcast system of HDTV including frame size in pixels which is the number of horizontal pixels x number of vertical pixels, scanning system and the third parameter is the frame rate which is identified as number of video frames per second. Currently there are two types of HDTV available in the market that includes an integrated HDTV and an HDTV ready set.

Two Must Have Appliances for Your Kitchen

Fridge and freezers are the most important appliances of your home, keeping food constantly fresh through cooling mechanism. With the newer technology and design, you have different option available in the market to suit your every day living needs. We will help you find a perfect fridge freezer and will discuss most important points you should consider before buying a fridge freezer.

Size

First and foremost thing is the size, while choosing a fridge freezer first things you should consider is the amount of space it will use in your kitchen. You can easily find the best fit fridge and freezers as they are commonly available in three widths and a variety of heights. If you have no space issue, then you should opt for a huge capacity American fridge freezer which comes in variety of styles, shapes, colours and sizes.

Storage Capacity

Look for your food habit; type of food you will store in your fridge. Consider the ratio of the split between the fridge and freezer compartment and choose the best combination that suits your needs. If you shop on regular basis and prefer fresh produces then you should go for a larger fridge space as you will need more room here to store products like frozen vegetables, ice cream and ice cubes etc. But if you are a bulk buyer and prefer the frozen food convenience then you should choose a bigger freezer model.

Usage Convenience

Conventional fridge comes with added burden called defrosting. So, choose a 'Frost Free' fridge and freezer and get rid off defrosting problem. Auto-defrost system automatically regulates the inside temperature of your fridge to prevent frosting. Easy cleanable shelves is necessary as they only require to be wiped with dampen cloth to keep them clean. So, look for glass shelves as they are easy to clean.

Energy Efficiency

Power consumption is another issue regarding home appliances. All fridge freezers are rated according to their Energy Efficiency from 'A+' to 'G'. 'A+ grade' appliances are the most efficient. Consider it, using an 'A-Grade' fridge freezer can reduce by up to £46 of your electricity every year in comparison to the conventional and older 'G-grade' model.

Additional Features

To keep your food safe inside the fridge few fridge and freezers comes with anti-bacterial protection. These models have Microbial built around the lining of the fridge, which kills bacteria, micro-organism and algae growth inside the fridge, keeping your food safe and protecting your family health. Some fridge freezers have removable bottle racks, allowing you to save valuable storage space for other things. There is another very useful feature called separate compartments, which helps prevent contamination by separate food storing. Vacuum storage system helps create vacuum in a small container inside the fridge which ensure fresher food without compromising on texture or flavour.

Premier Features

Stylish finishes, colours that suit your mood and kitchen environment are necessary. Water dispenser allows you the quick access to chilled water. High-end fridge and freezer comes with Touch Control LCD Displays. You can adjust the temperature inside the fridge from outside itself just by clicking few buttons. Toshiba AC100 Review

Toshiba's MID makes Android Unintuitive - Quite an Achievement

In June this year Toshiba celebrated 25 years of notebook and laptops production by unveiling a number of products it believed represented the shape of things to come in the mobile computing world.

One of the devices was the AC100, a netbook lookey-likey powered by Nvidia’s Tegra technology and running Google’s smartphone OS - Android 2.1. Aimed at those after a very portable Internet experience, we have mixed feelings about the WC100 – and feel it’s a bit of a missed opportunity.

Let’s start with the good. At only 870g the AC100 isn’t a device you’re going to have any problems lugging around, while the fanless system (more on that later) has allowed Toshiba to cram the WC100’s components into a tiny chassis measuring only 21mm at its thickest.

Battery life is also a selling point for the WC100, and the six hours twenty nine minutes we got of video playback is impressive.

Toshiba AC100: Design and Build

The tough, matt black plastic employed in building the chassis – with an inoffensive crosshatch pattern – makes the WC100 almost impervious to scuffs and scratches, great for a life on the road.

The 10.1-inch screen features a detailed 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and is very bright and a pleasure to view photos and videos on. The AC100’s keyboard, although a little cramped, is more than usable – although there’s no delete key which a regular typist might miss.

802.11n Wi-Fi is onboard for speedy wireless networking, while a 3G module is also included. This means that, having purchased a tariff and SIM card from a network provider, you’ll be able to surf the web/browse your email away from Wi-Fi hotspots.

Sony Bravia HX803 3D TV Review

Sony's HX800 Series is a 3D Upgradable Slim Screet

Sony has turned up fashionably late for the 3D TV party, shipping its first wave of 3D screens months after the Samsung UE467000 and Samsung UE55C8000 models broke cover. But there’s no doubt that the iconic Japanese TV brand is arriving with intent. While rival Panasonic offers a single model, the excellent Panasonic TX-P50VT20, Sony has three full ranges, of which the 40 inch HX803 (reviewed here) is its everyman proposition.

Unlike its rivals, this screen isn’t 3D Ready out of the box. You’ll need to spring for an optional TMR-BR100 3D sync transmitter (£50) and TDG-BR100B glasses (£100) before you can start with the eye-boggling.

At just 74mm, the set is pleasingly thin. However, closer inspection reveals commodity build quality. Our review sample frame creaked under pressure and the bottom panel trim did not sit flush with the rest of the frame.

Sony Bravia HX803: Features

Inputs are spread across the back panel and sides. There are two Scarts, a pair of HDMIs, one component AV input, PC VGA input, optical digital output and Ethernet. Two extra HDMIs are side-mounted, along with a set of phono AVs and USB.

Other than 3D, the set’s claim to fame is networkability. It goes online to Sony’s Bravia internet content portal (home of YouTube, LoveFilm, Eurosport, DailyMotion… plus other stuff I wager you’ll never, ever watch), and can stream media cross your home network...kinda. While the set plays common video file types, including AVIs and MKVs from a USB flash drive, it doesn’t see these same files across a network.

The user interface of this LCD TV is based on the PS3 X-media bar, which is unflashy but easy to use. PS3 users will also be able to play stereoscopic 3D games.

HTC 7 Trophy Review: Achievement Unlocked

It truly is a catchy name, but the Trophy is – so to speak – the consolation prize in the HTC Windows Phone 7 lineup. It’s not the big guy in the family nor is it the smartest. The Trophy is a middle-of-the-roader, the mass market choice. It’s the first HTC-made Windows Phone 7 device we’re reviewing and we guess it’s up to them to prove there’s no such thing as an ex PocketPC maker.

Windows Phone 7 is about sky-high hardware standards and Microsoft is not really encouraging out-of-the-box thinking. What does this mean for the HTC 7 Trophy? Well, believe it or not, this here Trophy has come onto the scene to bring the one thing that Windows Phone 7 is obviously short of – device personality.

Don’t get us wrong, WP7 is a great looking OS – and one that will only be getting better in terms of usability – but Microsoft-imposed uniformity is making it hard for manufacturers to set their products apart. They are trying to make up for that with better screens or free apps, but they still haven’t hit on a winning formula yet.

The HTC 7 Trophy will do its best to be the WP7 phone that stands out from the crowd. Since Microsoft forbids any customization, HTC took a different approach to giving the OS some individuality. Instead of offering free apps from the Marketplace, HTC have built their own – available to download for free off the HTC Hub. And the hub itself is a pinch of Sense UI sprinkled on Windows Phone 7, with some awesome exclusive apps.

Vodafone is Upgrading Over 500 Sites to Improve Network Capacity, Speed and Coverage

Vodafone and its managed service provider Ericsson are rolling out a major upgrade of the operator’s London network infrastructure. Vodafone has more than 500 sites in the capital and is upgrading every one across central London and the M4 corridor.

Work began in September with 25 sites a day being upgraded until the end of the year. Existing 2G and 3G equipment is being upgraded into single boxes, which freeing up space, cutting energy emissions by up to 30% and future proofing the site for the next generation of equipment such as LTE.

The full upgrade should be finished in ‘a few months’, according to Jeni Mundy, Vodafone’s chief technical officer. The operator is spending around £1m a day across its whole network.

Nokia Toys with Context-Aware Smartphone Settings Switch

If Intel prognosticated correctly, context is the future of apps -- your device's array of sensors will determine where you are and what you're doing, and clever programs will guess from there. Problems arise, however, when one tries to run those accelerometers, microphones, radio antennas and GPS tracking devices constantly on the battery life of an average smartphone and determine what the raw data means, and that's where a group of Dartmouth researchers (and one Nokia scholar) are trying to stake their claim. They've got a bundle of algorithms called Jigsaw for iPhone and Symbian that claims to be able to continually report what you're up to (whether walking, running, cycling or driving) no matter where you place your device, and only pings the sensors as needed based on how active you are. (For better or for worse, Jigsaw also dodges the privacy concerns Intel's cloud-based API might raise by storing all personal data on the phone.)

Of course, we've had a very basic version of context-aware functionality for years in a little Android app known as Locale -- which modifies your smartphone settings under very specific conditions you specify (GPS coordinates, WiFi locations, battery life and more) and it just so happens that Espoo's doing much the same with an app called Nokia Situations. Presently in the experimental stage, Situations is a long ways away from the potential of frameworks like Jigsaw, but here you won't have to wait -- you can download a beta for Symbian^3, S60 5th Edition and S60 3.2 at our source links without further delay.

Sony Aims for Half of Japan's E-reader Market by 2012

Given the dominance of Sony's Walkman over in the Land of the Rising Sun, it's a little surprising to think that Sony has been all but silent regarding the Japanese e-reader market. The company has already made its mark in digital cameras arena. We heard back in May that the mega-corp was planning an e-reader launch in Japan by the year's end, aiming to build out an elaborate e-book distribution platform with local telecom operator KDDI. Fast forward a few months, and it seems as if thing's are finally falling into place. New reports are suggesting that the 5- and 6-inch Sony Reader devices will be on sale in Japan on December 10th, with pricing set for ¥20,000 ($237) / ¥25,000 ($297), respectively.

Additionally, it's planning to crack the seal on an online e-bookstore with around 20,000 titles, and that one should be ready to roll prior to the "year-end shopping rush." Perhaps more stunning, however, is Sony's intentions to "sell 300,000 Readers in the first year and win half the domestic market by 2012" -- that's according to Sony Marketing Japan president Nobuki Kurita. Bold words, Sony, but we love the ambition.

Gaming Devices

Gaming devices are always fun to have around. Be it consoles, wires, plugs, adapters, the screen, speakers, headphones and all other accessories, gaming becomes an unbelievable experience when all these accessories are at your disposal. They all have their own part to play in making the gaming experience remarkable. These devices provide for exemplary graphics, scintillating sound and thuds, ballistic movements and above all, make for a thorough virtual experience that simply takes the gamer out of this world. With time, more and more innovative gaming devices have come to the fore which has made video games an industry in itself and has also created careers for those who wish to make this passion their livelihood.

A trend that was started by Sega and Nintendo through their home game consoles has only been taken forward by Sony and Microsoft through their PlayStation and Xbox that help gamers connect them to any visual device and start playing games. The Atari and Play cable were the earliest to hit the market and took the gaming world by storm. Over these years, Sony with its PlayStation Portable has eliminated the need for connectivity and has created a system where the game can be played on the console itself with a small screen in the middle. Cassettes have been replaced by CDs and DVDs and adapters have been replaced by wireless chords that work on the concept of wireless communication.

All of these have different operational structures. The buttons are meant for movement and direction where as the chord is meant to provide power with the adapter being used for connecting the console to the visual display. The disks have the game programmed and stored in them that gets played inside the video game player. There are earphones available that can be plugged into the player if the gamer wants a personalized audio experience. These earphones ensure that the sound only falls into the gamers’ ears and does not stray. There are certain gaming devices like the WiMAX that are slide open and have a huge screen on the top and a full keypad with all the buttons on the bottom. This device also offers a memory card with considerable memory to store numerous games. The portability is no issue and all it requires of a person is to charge the set so that one can continue playing.

These gaming devices offer a lot of versatility. The features are different and so are the graphic interfaces. The added accessories only ensure that the experience become more inclusive and holistic. Some of them have also started coming out in the form of touch screen pads making it more effortless to pass on commands. These devices along with the value adding accessories have made gaming unbelievable. The process is not mechanical anymore and one actually feels as if he has entered into a virtual world full of amazing characters and humorous antagonists. The sound emitted by the speakers is music to the ears and send a chill down the gamers’ spine. These devices have indeed been a revelation in entertainment.

iPod Docks

Music is the soul of life. You must have heard this cliché a lot of times earlier, so why not one more time! But for that soul to enter your body, you need a stereo or an iPod!!! Stereos have become obsolete and a thing of the past, so let us talk about iPods now! Having mentioned that, it is not as if other devices are useless. The fact remains that iPods are the ‘it’ thing these days and have monopolized the music industry. To keep the iPods, music lovers need iPod docks. These docks are docking stations where the iPods are kept. There are plenty of docks available in the market and it is always good to know about some of the features offered by them.

The docks need not be very loud, though the sound emitted has to be upright and comfortable. Clock and Radio in the dock are imperative for the fact that time and entertainment has always been an integral part of bedroom audio. The screen is usually large in these docks and exudes bright blue LEDs. The docks with a bright screen are necessary in the bedroom as the first thing a person looks for in the morning is light so that he can have a look at the time. The light ensures that the dock keeps glowing all the time and especially when the user gets up and switches the device on.

Another type of dock would be the one with 30 Watt RMS output. The dock is a stereo system where two speakers are built in and synchronized into a black chassis of huge size. This dock would be idyllic when kept in the hall for it has the capacity to play CDs and has a video outlet also. This enables the user to watch videos through the pod. The docking station is detachable sideways and modular too. Some of the docks are innovatively designed and have toilet paper rolling over them. The speakers have been attached to the side and are moisture free.

There are some docks out there where the frequency response is phenomenal. This is great news as far as sound quality is concerned as the listener will have it smooth. The system is perfect to entertain a whole gathering and is ideal to play loud music. All these docks come with their own qualities and bring along their own benefits that make them highly endearing and play a big role in their purchasing. The iPod docks have been simply scintillating since their launch and have played a great role in giving iPods a fitting home. The iPods look phenomenal when kept on the iPod docking stations and have been very systematic in lending the devices an edge. These docks have been influential in making iPods look good and only increase their presence.

With all the factors mentioned above taken into account, it comes as no surprise that users love having these iPod docks for their iPods to increase the quality of sound.

2010 Bombardment: Launch of Over 50 ARM Based Tablets

Consumer appetites have made the verdict quite clear about portable computing devices. Industry pundits say that the tablets would be the most suitable option available at the manufacturer’s disposal for the fact that they seem to narrow down the gap between small sized smart phones and medium laptops. The tablets were displayed quite belligerently at the CES and the CeBIT shows and taking that phenomenal response into consideration, vendors of MID devices look all set to blow out CompuTex. The ODM manager for worldwide mobile computing at ARM, Roy Chen, has said quite emphatically that Tablet PCs in excess of 50 are going to be launched in the second quarter of 2010 with substantial landing in the third quarter. This is concurrently going to take place with the Chrome OS launch schedule. ARM seems to be so excited about this event that it has already started to rent additional floor space. Chen has made it clear though that many of these tablets will be sent to the Chinese contingent. The Press Event saw ARM showing off two tablet PCs which included the 7 inch ComPal device. Tablet makers look all set to reveal some compelling content which will provide users with the experience of a lifetime. The touch screen facility of these tablet PCs make the whole deal more exciting.
